The Best Video Production Companies in Illinois

Illinois has been making people want things on screen for decades. Chicago agencies gave the world Tony the Tiger and the Jolly Green Giant, and in 2025 the state set a new record for film and TV production spending, at $703 million.

That's good news if you need a video made, and a bit of a headache too. The state is home to State Farm in Bloomington, John Deere in Moline, Abbott in Abbott Park and McDonald's in Chicago, and the production companies that grew up around them range from cinematic brand-film studios to small teams turning out training videos. Plenty of them have a lovely showreel. Fewer can tell you what your video will actually do once it's posted.

So we've rounded up the video production companies in Illinois worth a look, from downtown Chicago to Springfield and Quincy. We've put ourselves at number one, and made sure the other nine are there on merit.

1. Trendy Grandad (YouTube and social-first video for US brands)

It's our blog, so we'd be daft not to put ourselves first. Luckily, we've got the numbers to go with it.

We make YouTube videos and social content for brands like Netflix, L'Oréal's La Roche-Posay and Intuit QuickBooks, where we've been the YouTube production partner since 2024. Our social video for Netflix has passed 10 million views, and our YouTube work for Sumsub has passed 5 million.

What makes us different from most companies on this list is what happens before and after the shoot. We start with the target audience and what they already watch, then plan every video around its title and thumbnail, because on YouTube nobody watches what they don't click. Then we write, film and edit it, and cut it down for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, so one shoot keeps your channels busy for weeks.

We have an office in New York and hire trusted local crews for shoots elsewhere, so an Illinois brand gets a crew on the ground with our strategy behind it.

2. Demo Duck

Demo Duck has been making explainer videos in Chicago since 2011, and that's still what it's best known for. The team also shoots live-action commercials, customer testimonials and short business documentaries, and the clients on its site include Rippling, GEICO, Northwestern Mutual and Newsela. A strong option for software and tech companies with a product that takes a minute to explain.

3. Video Parachute

Video Parachute has been producing in Chicago since 2007, with a lot of corporate and event work. Its smartest idea is repurposing: turning webinars and old footage from events into short video content you can post. It offers monthly video marketing plans that include the posting, and Northwestern Medicine and UChicago Medicine are among the clients on its site, which makes it worth a call for healthcare teams.

4. Grand Union Creative

Grand Union Creative makes documentaries and brand films about the people inside big companies, from recruitment films to internal communications. It focuses on industries like agriculture, energy, manufacturing and logistics, and its site lists work for Amazon, Kraft Heinz, Exelon and Conagra. Ideal if you're a large employer with workforce stories to tell.

5. Richter Studios

Richter Studios has been working out of Highland Park, on Chicago's North Shore, since 1997. It covers brand films, commercials, documentaries, training videos and animation, and the client list on its site runs from Radio Flyer and Wilson to Deloitte and Jeppson's Malört. Best suited to mid-size and large brands who want polished, cinematic filmmaking.

6. Digital Alliance

Digital Alliance, founded in 2015 and based in Aurora, specialises in video for manufacturers and industrial firms: facility tours, recruitment videos, product demos and trade show films. Its case studies from 2026 include work for Allegion, Ergoseal and Shure, so the portfolio is right up to date. If your factory floor is your best selling point, start here.

7. Umault

Umault describes itself as a boutique B2B video ad agency, and works out of Oakbrook Terrace in the western suburbs. It also hosts a podcast for marketers, So You Need a Video, and names Dell Technologies and PremiumBeat among its clients. Talk to them if you want your B2B video built as an ad rather than a company overview.

8. Motion Source

Motion Source, in Brookfield, was founded by Craig Bass and makes corporate videos and commercials alongside brand, product and nonprofit films. Its portfolio includes work for Magna-Tiles, Gerber and Fibre Box. That mix makes it a good call for consumer product brands, and for nonprofits that need a film to raise money or awareness.

9. Storyteller Studios

Storyteller Studios, in Springfield, has made documentary-style films for brands and nonprofits since 2013. It's a regional Emmy-winning team that says it has completed more than 700 projects across 23 states, with a strong record for museums and state agencies. The best pick on this list for a fundraising campaign or a public body outside Chicago.

10. Vervocity

Over on the Mississippi in Quincy, Vervocity is a full-service marketing agency where video and photo, including drone videography and virtual tours, is one of four core services. It's run by Cody and Kayla Hageman, and ADM is among its clients. A sensible choice for western Illinois businesses that want video and web work from one team.

How to choose a video production company in Illinois

Before you compare video production services and quotes, these are the questions we'd ask on the first call to get a feel for their approach.

Where is this video going to live? A 60-second brand film for your homepage, a YouTube series and a run of TikTok ads need different scripts and edits, because each one is competing for attention in a different way. A production company that asks about the goal first is planning for results. One that jumps straight to cameras and drones is planning a shoot.

How much do you get from one shoot day? Ask how many cut-downs you'll get, and in which formats (16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Instagram Reels, Shorts and TikTok). A full day of filming in Chicago should give you weeks of social content as well as the main video.

Can they show you numbers as well as a showreel? A showreel is the best ten seconds of every project, so ask to see a few full videos too and judge the quality across a whole piece. Watch time and click-through rate tell you whether audiences stuck around, and for ads, cost per sale tells you if it paid.

Who's writing the title and thumbnail? If the video is going on YouTube, the title and thumbnail design matter more than the camera. People decide whether to click from a title and a small image, so if nobody owns that, even a brilliant video can sit at a few hundred views.

Have they filmed in your world before? Illinois runs on manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare and finance, so industry experience counts. A crew that's filmed on a factory floor will already know about safety briefings and PPE, and a crew used to hospitals will know how consent and patient privacy work on set.

How the video production process works

Most video production companies in Illinois follow the same three stages, even if they give them different names.

Pre-production. The concept, script and shot list get written, locations get booked and the producer works out who needs to be on set. This is where the storytelling gets decided, along with the one message you want people to remember. It's cheap to change your mind here and expensive to change it in the edit.

Production. The shoot itself. On a TV commercial or brand film, the crew might include a director, a camera operator handling the cinematography, and people on lighting and sound. If you're filming on Chicago streets or city property, permits go through the Chicago Film Office, so ask early who's sorting that.

Post-production. Video editing, colour, the sound mix, motion graphics and any animation, then delivery in every format you need for YouTube, your website and social media platforms. Leave room for review rounds. Getting feedback from three departments can take longer than the shoot did.

What affects your video production budget

Pricing varies a lot between companies, so it helps to know what you're paying for before the quotes come in.

Most of the cost comes down to time, both on set and in the edit. Crew size, studio hire, extra lighting and equipment, on-screen talent, travel and drone work all add to it, and motion graphics or animation can cost as much as the filming if there's a lot of it.

The easiest way to stretch a budget is to plan more from the same day. One well-planned shoot can give you a long-form video and a month of cut-downs, which is far better value than booking a separate shoot for each. A good production company will show you where the money goes and suggest where to save.

If YouTube is the main job, we've also rounded up the best YouTube video production companies in Chicago.
